01 · UNDERSTANDING GRIEF

Most of us were never taught what to do with grief. We may have been told to be strong, stay busy, give it time, or simply move on. While those words may be well-intended, they do not always give us the tools we need to address the pain caused by loss.

At The Word Church, we help people take meaningful actions to process unresolved grief so they can begin moving beyond the pain of loss.

“YOUR GRIEF MATTERS. YOU DO NOT HAVE TO MINIMIZE IT, COMPARE IT, OR CARRY IT ALONE.”

02. MORE THATN DEATH

MORE THAN 40 TYPES OF LOSS CAN CAUSE GRIEF.

  • 01 · Death

The death of a loved one or another important person.

  • 02 · Relationships

Divorce, separation, changing friendships, or the end of a relationship.

  • 03 · Life Changes

Moving, graduation, retirement, changes in family roles, or other major transitions.

  • 04 · Health

A new diagnosis, changes in physical abilities, chronic illness, or changes in mental health.

  • 05 · Work

Job loss, career changes, financial hardship, or the loss of professional identity.

  • 06 · Trust & Safety

The loss of trust, safety, hope, faith, innocence, or a sense of belonging.

WHETHER YOUR LOSS HAPPENED RECENTLY OR MANY YEARS AGO, YOUR GRIEF MATTERS.

04 · YOUR COMMITMENT

Grief recovery is meaningful work. Because every session builds upon the one before it, attendance and a commitment to the full nine weeks are essential.

01. Attend each weekly two-hour group session.

02. Purchase The Grief Recovery Handbook before the first meeting.

03. Complete the weekly reading, reflection, and writing assignments.

4. Participate in a respectful and supportive group environment.

05. Protect the privacy of fellow group members.

You will not be pressured to share more than you are prepared to share. However, your willingness to engage honestly and complete the weekly assignments is an important part of the process.

06 · BEFORE WE BEGIN

The Grief Recovery Handbook is an essential part of the nine-week program. We will use it for weekly reading, personal reflection, and group assignments.

Please purchase your copy before the first group meeting so you are prepared to begin the process with us.
